11 years agoDropbox Desktop App crashing on Windows 8
I have several users who are noticing that their Dropbox App completely crashes on Windows 8 and they are off line. We have tried to restart the app and nothing happens. Only solution is to reinstall dropbox on top of itself. I have performed this several times, but today I had a user that required this step again (3 hours after the first reinstall) we have several hundred gigs of data on each users machine, so wiping and reinstalling is a last stop for us.
Any suggestions to what is causing this?
Hi Mike R. we checked your error logs and it looks like Dropbox on your machine might be running into a bug that was fixed in later builds - can you try the newer build at https://www.dropboxforum.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/203362409-Experimental-Build-3-9-31 and let us know if that works for you?

Hi Daniel,
Does the experimental build work for you?
https://www.dropboxforum.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/204562695-Experimental-Build-3-9-32

The experimental build does not crash and close but it does get stuck on "connecting" as frequently as the other version crashed. Can I run and debugs to dig deeper? I have also updated to Windows 10 to see if that would help but no luck there.

I have just built a new PC with Windows10. With only the OS on it was sitting quite happily, I then installed dropbox and started syncing and after a few minutes it crashed my PC. On restart it lasted even less time and crashed again. Is there an issue with Dropbox and Windows 10?
Thank you.

Richard, I am running the experimental build on Windows 10 and it does not crash Windows but it does hang on "connecting". The problem you are reporting sounds more like a driver issue. If you close Dropbox completely, does it still crash?
- Daniel F.32New member | Level 1
John, any other suggestions to get some debug information so I can figure this problem out? This is causing some issues with updates to in use files and I need to know if I should start looking for another software solution.

This issue is happening to me. The Error code is surrounding MSVCR120.dll
