11 years agoDropbox Desktop App crashing on Windows 8
I have several users who are noticing that their Dropbox App completely crashes on Windows 8 and they are off line. We have tried to restart the app and nothing happens. Only solution is to reinstall dropbox on top of itself. I have performed this several times, but today I had a user that required this step again (3 hours after the first reinstall) we have several hundred gigs of data on each users machine, so wiping and reinstalling is a last stop for us.
Any suggestions to what is causing this?
Hi Mike R. we checked your error logs and it looks like Dropbox on your machine might be running into a bug that was fixed in later builds - can you try the newer build at https://www.dropboxforum.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/203362409-Experimental-Build-3-9-31 and let us know if that works for you?

My dropbox kept crashing during the user login, after a clean install on a clean install of Win 10.
In spite of uninstalling and reinstalling Dropbox the same thing occurred without fail.
Solution:
1: Uninstall Dropbox from control panel.
2: Then remove the following registry folders
Run: "REGEDIT" to locate and open the registry
Then locate: HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE
and delete the subfolders: "DROPBOX" and "DROPBOXUPDATE".
Then re-run the Dropbox installer (I used the offline installer).
You will notice that this time it takes much longer to install and should work when you log in for the first time.
I hope that this works for you.

Hello ALL:
I`m facing the same problem for a while on computers running iOS, Windows 8.1, 10 and Server 2008.
Based on the above posts, it is a general issue and Dropbox team is not being able to fix it.
I am very concerned about this, once Dropbox is the tool choosen to keep my server and remote notebooks sync.
Should I change Dropbox with another solution or is there a fix comming soon?
Please advise.
Thanks.
