My email was hacked, can I install the desktop app without a password?

Hi

My email account has been compromised and I'm concerned my associated Dropbox may have also been accessed.

I'm fairly confident the hacker only had access to my emails and not all my passwords.

The password for my Dropbox account hasn't been changed so it hasn't been reset using the compromised email account.

However, now that I have regained access to my email account I notice that around the time of the email compromise, I received an email that said "You're invited to download the Dropbox desktop app" and a few days later "Click below to see how easy it is to complete your Dropbox setup: you'll be able to access your files from anywhere."

My question is, is it possible to get the Dropbox install to send an email with a Login Link that doesn't require the password. These are often referred to as Magic Links and can be used to speed up the install process.

My fear is that even though they didn't have my password and it hasn't been reset they may still have accessed my dropbox files.

P.S. I have checked the linked devices, followed the Dropbox instructions for being hacked and will be treating this as though I have lost everything.

Hi Unstable, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

There isn't an option for a Magic Link via email. However, if you have the Dropbox mobile app running on a device, you can use the 'Connect a computer' feature to install the app that way.

If you need any further assistance, please let me know!
