Support for dropbox free teams ends March 31, 2022
ciao,
grazie a chi mi saprà rispondere e Buona giornata
Sveva

Hello
today I received an email informing me that from March 31 it will no longer be possible to use the work team in free😅 mode
I wanted to understand if actually from the first of April the folders and files will remain unchanged, including the sharing settings or if they will be deleted to the other members of the team, but will remain cmq to me who am the administrator?
I wouldn't risk losing everything 😓... I ask so that we can prepare in time and in the right way for the passage
thanks to those who will be able to answer me and Have a nice day
Sveva
- Hey Sveva, thanks for posting your questions to our Community.
With the deprecation of free teams, the only things that are changing are:
1) Account pairing (if you have your free team account linked to a personal one, they will get unlinked)
2) You will no longer be able to access team features, like groups.
Everything else in your account, along with your files and sharing permissions will remain the same.
For more info, you can take a look at the email you received about this.
Let me know if you have any questions!

Hannah - perhaps you can help me too. Since the disbanding of teams (which I was never aware of anyway) my personal DropBox folders have physically disappeared from my laptop. I can still see them via DropBox.com if I log in, but they are no longer on my computer. How do I get them back.
All my business DropBox folders and files are still visible on my computer and syncing with other users of the same folders.

Hi jbj1963, when the personal and work account unlinked, the first account connected on your device remains there, meaning the work account.
As you work account is now also a personal account, you can't have two personal accounts syncing on the machine at the same time.
You can unlink your work account from the desktop app and link your personal account if you prefer those files to sync instead.

Hi @Hannah,
I suddenly got that message as well. The Team dropbox is not on my computer anymore and I just logged in on a browser and there are no more files in the old Business Team folder anymore??
- HannahDropbox Staff
Thanks for the nudge, cherrycolalola.
Have you tried searching for them on our site?
How about your shared tab? The team folders should be turned into shared folders now, so they may be there.

Yesterday I got notified that my Dropbox account, which I have had and used for years, was being basically downgraded.
I started years ago with a paid Dropbox personal account. Then, after a while, Dropbox offered Teams as an upgrade, which I jumped at. Now I had the ability to keep my work and personal files in separate locations on my computer and still share from either folder. I linked clients into certain folders, and was shared to by other clients folders we collaborate on. I work daily in both my personal and work team folders.
Until this morning.
This morning is when I learned that Dropbox was ending the team folder, and had converted it to a personal account. Now I had a Dropbox Plus account without the team functionality, and an orphaned work folder no longer attached to my Mac's Finder.
When I tried to sort this out with customer service, followed by support, I learned that the only way I was going to be able to continue working the way I had been was to upgrade to a business account. Basically, since I did not want to do business from my personal account I did it from the team folder. Now all my team work folders were unlinked and the only way to manage them would be by logging into that separate account online, since all syncing was cut off from my computer. This forces my hand to upgrade.
However, it turns out other new restrictions were added. First, Dropbox converted my team folder to a personal account, so there is no way to sync it back as a whole. One cannot add a second personal account to a business account, so the only way to get those folders back is to share them individually back to my old account. That is tedious. There are a LOT of files.
Secondly, now there is apparently a sharing transfer daily cap, so I was only able to share 4 folders back to my old account before that daily limit was reached. That means it may be days, perhaps weeks before my files are back in any semblance of order, and in the meantime I am going to have some awkward conversations with clients about why things are messed up and not working smoothly.
What is my trade-off? Nearly twice the price, half again the storage, (when I was only at about 15% of the 2TB I had) and what, the ability to add a logo? Dropbox, You have now cost me days, perhaps weeks of productivity.
This will also be shared to all my social media accounts.

I can't find my (ex)Team/Work folder. In my computer (physically) I have it but it's content I think it's only what I had in "Selective Sync", the other sub folder are not there. PLEASE, I can't find many many work folders that I urgently need
- adrian_cNew member | Level 2
I do not see it online on dropbox.com and neither physically on my computer.
On my hard drive I only have the (Team) folders I had locally with "Selective Sync".
PLEASE, I need help. I had a LOT of work files there.- WalterDropbox Staff

I used two private accounts with the desktop app on win.
Today I got a message that one link was removed...
In the properties I only can merge a Team account. Is it new???- HannahDropbox Staff
Hey Rafer, thanks for reaching out to our Community.
I moved your post to this relevant thread.
What happened is that we stopped supporting free teams, which is what one of your accounts probably used to be.
No need to worry, though, both your accounts and the files in them are safe.
You can read more about what happened, in the replies above.

Unlike the original poster, I was not forewarned about the eminent demise of the free Teams facility. I woke up this morning to an ephemeral pop-up message saying that my 'work' account had been unlinked and deleted. I had no warning. I've searched my email box high and low, junk and deleted, and there's been no message from Dropbox to warn me about this. How do I recover the files you deleted? And more to the point, how can I trust you going forward?
- MarkSuper User II
The account has not been deleted Deborah L.9 - it has just been unlinked.
You simply need to log on to the account via the email and password on the website and all files/data are there.

Hi Mark - I can see that what you say is right. The unannounced unlinking has however created other problems, like leaving my Plus status on the wrong account. And it’s not so simple as just moving everything over to the Plus account. Can I now expect Dropbox to start deleting important files in the account which was not deleted from my computer because it’s run out of storage. Do I lose my expectation of an ability to recover deleted files for up to 30 days because that facility is sitting on an unlinked account? I’ve written to customer service about this, but as they unlinked everything on the cusp of weekend, I expect I’ll have to sit around and wait for days to learn that their hands are tied, there’s nothing they can do. I’ve been paying for Pro and then Plus for almost a decade.

I used to be able to switch between separate dropbox accounts OFFLINE, then one account got removed and I just couldn't find a way to add it again. Is this only available to a certain account type? If yes, then what is it?

Hey annesahm90, thanks for reaching out.
I've moved your post to this relevant thread. You'll find more info here about what happened.
