I find that many Cloud services offer encryption during transfer to the service and encryption at the destination. Dropbox does this too. Unfortunately, the keys used at the destination are available to Dropbox. What would make Dropbox unique is if it would offer Zero Knowledge encryption at the client. That way all files are encrypted at the client with the customer retaining the keys. Why is this important? There can be bugs during transfer even if encryption is used (remember the famous OOPS with caches on internet servers offering up unencrypted data?). Also, the government can force Dropbox to deliver user data (or it may be compromised by hackers). Dropbox with Zero Knowledge Encryption would be a market leading solution that would drive a great preference over OneDrive, Google Drive and others. It would be the only way I would be comfortable putting my files on the cloud.Solved2.9MViews186likes30CommentsAuto-Log Out function for the website
I work at a very large University and there are literally thousand of students and staff using dropbox here. I recently noticed that dropbox does not log out automatically on browsers. This may be a Chrome/IE issue. However, if you bring up dropbox on almost any computer at the uni, there is still someone logged in into his/her account, because people assume that they are logged out when they close the browser. This is a significant security risk for personal data - PLEASE ENABLE AN AUTO_LOG OUT SETTING WITH A TIMER (ie - after 10 minutes inactivity) THIS IS STANDARD FOR SENSITIVE DATA WEBSITES - PLEASE VOTE FOR THIS FEATURE - IT IS CRUCIAL FOR MILLIONS OF DROPBOX USERS WHO LOG IN ON PUBLIC COMPUTERS AND MAY FORGET TO LOG OUT. THANKS FOR YOUR VOTE!12KViews18likes8CommentsHow do I sign in to my Dropbox account if I've made too many login attempts?
I have a problem logging in after I did phone reset. At first I thought that maybe I am entering wrong password so I did password reset as well but it doesn't help. I waited for hours but nothing is changing. I tried to uninstall and install app again but problem still persists.Solved179KViews13likes76CommentsPreventing folders from being moved
Hello fellow Dropbox users.. I am the team admin on a business account. We have implemented a folder structure across our team. Includes folders and sub-folders. We would now like to "lock" our new folder struture, while still allowing team members to accessall folders and sub-folders. We need team members to be able to upload, download, edit and save files within the folders and sub-folders. Is this possible? Our main goal is to prevent team members from accidiently moving or dragging folders or sub-folders into the wrong place. Do any fellow team admins have any tips for business accounts?Solved6KViews11likes6CommentsAdmin disable "remember me" on login screen
As an admin I would like the ability to disable the "remember me" option on the login screen. This would force the user to enter a password whenever logging into Dropbox online. Many apps make this available to company admins. As cybersecurity becomes increasingly important this is a feature that I think is absolutely mandatory. I would really like for Dropbox to close the desktop app when a user logs out of their computer. For some reason they think this is unnecessary and that a computer password is sufficient security. I find it interesting that Boxcryptor, one of their technology partners, offers this extra security but Dropbox doesn't bother to do so. Would it really take that much effort to add this feature? You talk about how secure our data is in your cloud storage. How about helping to make it secure on my desktop?11KViews10likes11CommentsRemoving external user from all shared folders
Hi Dropbox and forum, There seems to be no way of removing all access of an external user to files/folders shared to him. Lets say you have a team folder with "Projects", and in this folder you have hundreds of subfolders shared with different external collaborators. One user has been invited to 70 of the subfolders, and you need to remove his access to everything. As far as i see, there is no other way to remove this user but to go through every one of the 70 folders and manually remove him. If this isn't possible, it should really be a high priority feature request.4.5KViews9likes4CommentsWay to stop dropbox disallow people from requesting to join our team?
Is there a way to not give people the option to join our team? Every time I send a file to someone outside of my dropbox team (which is almost daily) they must get some kind of additional email telling them they can request to join our team, because I usually get a follow up email with random people who got the file asking to be part of my company's team. Is there a way to stop this? Or lock our team from outsiders?6.9KViews9likes19CommentsDice captcha is an atrocity
The "add dice up to 14" captcha - five times in a row - with a time limit - grainy images - that resets if you get one single wrong answer is absolutely not a test of me "being human". It is a frustrating and ridiculous waste of time that is not disability friendly and simply impossible under some internet conditions. Personally, I already detest dropbox and only use it when forced to by external collaborators. Every time I am forced to use it there is some fresh hell you have invented to make the experience even worse. Doing fieldwork where I had patchy internet and a small screen this captcha was impossible for me. It delayed file sharing for about a week. Get rid of it. I can only imagine how impossible this must be for someone with dyslexia, and there doesn't seem to be any way to ask for an alternate test. Frankly I can't believe someone hasn't sued you for discrimination yet.5.8KViews9likes6CommentsRemove fake file activity when not logged in
After I upload a file to Dropbox for others to download, the recipients (without Dropbox accounts) open the link and see, under “Activity”: “Patricia Johnson downloaded this file” and “Anthony Abate viewed this file”: Apparently, this is supposed to be just an example of what file activity would look like if one were signed in to the account. However, it’s not obvious that this is the case, and has (understandably) caused concern for those who believe their privacy has been breached. Please remove this “feature”.6.3KViews9likes10Comments
