Incorrect Timestamp shown to uploaded files
I noticed yesterday that the timestamp on my uploaded and edited files are anywhere between 6 and 9 hours earlier. My Time zone settings are set correctly.
Hi all,
The issue of incorrect modified dates showing on files uploaded via our website should now be fixed for all users. If anyone is still seeing files showing an incorrect modified time versus the timezone setting on their account please let me know!
Regards,
Frank

It is not an OS problem. It happens to me on windows 10, an old 7 that I have and 8
- apraetorSuper User alumniThis really sounds like an Office365-related issue. The timestamp on the file is reflecting the time zone of the Microsoft server you are accessing at the time, is my guess. That would explain why the wrong time zone is only occurring on 365 documents.
Have you opened a support ticket with Dropbox? Dropbox.com/support
Btw, there are two issues here. The original poster of this question had a problem due to the use of Windows XP. The subsequent comments are actually a symptomatically-similar but causally different issue, related to the use of Office365. I wanted to clear that up, before it causes confusion. Incorrect timestamps in web browsers under Windows XP are a known issue and not related to Dropbox.- SusanRExplorer | Level 4My timestamp issue in Dropbox isn't only Office 365. I uploaded some files yesterday unrelated to Office and those showed the times as 7 hours in the past.
- RichSuper User IIWhat platform and what applications is this occurring in? What Dropbox version are you running? The more details you can provide, the easier it will be to assist you.

For me, time stamps are a few hours behind on Word docs, at least when platform = Windows 7 and application = MS Word 365. (I haven't noticed yet whether it happens for Word docs when working on Mac OS X El Capitan.) FWIW, the time stamp is wrong on Dropbox.com, but not when I check the same doc on my Mac's Dropbox application, the time stamp is correct.

Brownd Have you checked your timezone at https://www.dropbox.com/account?

- SusanRExplorer | Level 4My issue still had not been resolved by Dropbox after 5 days. My uploaded and modified files in Excel online are showing the wrong times, about 7 hours in the past, and I cannot fix it. I am using Windows 8.1, Excel 2016 in Office 365, and all other times are set properly. CST in what my Dropbox needs to be set on, but that no longer appears in the Settings, and only UTC shows.
- SusanRExplorer | Level 4And GMT at times. It was working just fine for the past couple of Months, and suddenly started displaying the incorrect times. I have received numerous emails from Dropbox that it is being looked into, but it's been 5 days!
- MarkSuper User II
All I can suggest is recontacting support at http://dropbox.zendesk.com, but, as Excel is actually provided by Microsoft it maybe that they need to work with them to resolve the issue. Also, i know you said it was 5 days but please remember they only work Mon-Fri so weekends do not count.
Also, if you are not a paying user initial replies are usually three days or so as priority is (rightly) given to paid subscribers.

I just uploaded a file.. The time of my location (5.35pm) doesnt showed correct on updated time (1.05am) on DB. How can I correct this ? Even my setting on "time zone" both DB and my computer are correct.
- RichSuper User IIHow are you uploading the file; using the Dropbox client on your computer, the Dropbox website, or a mobile device? What version of Dropbox are you running? If a mobile device, what platform and version?
- JohnsonlimklExplorer | Level 3Hi.....i upload direct into dropbox websites. All the while is working perfectly, the error only started last friday. Even i tried to clear all browsing history/cookies, change log in password, removed the files and start upload new files. It still same error.

Using DropBox on Win 10, from Melbourne, Aust (GMT + 11) via Firefox - system settings in OS are correct, but files in DropBox have save times 11hours in future? I've also tried resetting Time Zone options in Settings, no difference.

Hi guys!
I reported this issue back in 2017 and I was told that it's going to be fixed, but I still see it is not.
I see that when photos and videos are uploaded from my Android phone to the Dropbox cloud, they are getting renamed in the cloud folder and their name reflects their date and time, as follows for example for photos '2019-11-21 08.33.25.jpg'. This is fine for photos, this is expected. But video files do not get correct time in their file name! Video file time reflected in its file name is 10 or 11 hour behind, because I am on Sydney time zone (UTC+10 or +11). So for video files time is UTC, which is wrong, it does not take time zone into account. This happens only to video files. Photos are fine.
Currently I am on Samsung Galaxy S10, Android 10. Dropbox app is the latest version. But the issue is still the same as back in 2017 and before.
Is there any solution for this?

Here is a screenshot from my files. When I choose Version history the times are correct, but here they are not. File 1 is OK. It was modified 50 min ago. File 2 has the wrong info. It was modified about 10.30 pm yesterday. It was NOT modified yesterday at 1:33 am. At that time i was asleep and my computer was shut off

Apologies for the delayed follow up on this thread!
It seems ollyradford that you're experiencing something a little different here.
We've seen a few reports of this occurring here on the Community and it seems that this is isolated to the "Recents" section of the Home page, is this where you're seeing this?
Are you seeing this "1970" timestamp anywhere else like when viewing your files through the Files tab here?
Also, if anyone else is still experiencing the issue with the timestamps on their files showing a different time please just give me a nudge here so that I can follow up with you. I can check on any previous info you've posted here too so don't worry about that.
Keep me posted!

Thanks for replying Daphne
My issue wasn't in the recents, but if I drilled down to the folder where the files are located through the files tab.
I raised a ticket with support and did a bit of testing. Findings as follows:
Files uploaded through drag & drop in Chrome were assigned 01/01/1970 00:00 timestamps.Files uploaded through drag & drop in Firefox were assigned timestamps of when the upload completed.
Files uploaded through the windows client preserved the timestamp of the file from windows.
The last being the expected behaviour.
I was using the browser as I get a much faster upload speed for large files than through the client...
Hope that helps, but mention me if you need any further info....
