Cannot start Dropbox app on Macbook

Hi,

I installed Dropbox app on Macbook Pro, system Ventura 13.2.1 (22D68), but it cannot start. I have already tried to reinstall it, but still did not work.

And the error file:

  • It mysteriously solved. When I restarted my mac after an update and gave it another try, it suddenly popped out log-in issues which showed that dropbox identified my mac as a new device each time I tried to log in, so I cannot log in due to exceeding the maximum number of devices I was allowed. After I removed my login devices, it finally start.

I was able to solve this on my own. I have no idea if this is the 'officially sanctioned' approach but here is what I did:

** OBLIGATORY WARNING ** This is what I DID. YOU should do your own research and make the best choice for YOUR needs. You should also listen to Dropbox support, not some idiot on the internet. I am not suggesting or advising to try to do this. I am a software engineer with 25 years of experience so this kind of thing is second-nature to me. In other words, I am a professional. If you are not a professional, use at your own risk.

    1.  Make a backup of the hidden Dropbox data folder ( yours is at `/Users/YOUR_USER_NAME/.dropbox`). If you are comfortable using the command line (Terminal) you can run `cp -R /Users/YOUR_USER_NAME/.dropbox ~/Downloads/dropbox-data-backup`
    2. Then run `rm -R -f /Users/YOUR_USER_NAME/.dropbox`
    3. Quit the Dropbox app and relaunch it
    4. It will think it is a new install (technically it is)
    5. Follow the prompts to set up your Dropbox again. You will have to choose which folders to sync again and let it sync, THEN go through the Mac OS update ther integrates Dropbox with the Finder but for me that was prefarable to waiting on Dropbox support to respond and jumping through a bunch of hoops to probably end up doing something similar.

I have this error problem too. Can't find how to contact dropbox support team, but happy for them to contact me on my registered email. I can then send over the longform error code. Thank you in advance!

      Hey there, danclarkis, happy Monday!

Do you get the same error message as the OP? If not, could you attach the start-up error code back here, to you reply?

Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!

I couldn't get my Dropbox app to work. Keep showing the same error prompt as below: Does anybody know how to fix it? I have used the "fix permission error', yet, it still won't allow me to access Dropbox app.

Hi! I'm running into the same issue as well and have tried all of the steps in this thread to troubleshoot this issue. I have updated to MacOS Ventura 13.4.1 (22F82). The grey Dropbox Icon no longer pops-up on my menu bar and, while the folder shows up in my finder window, none of my files are syncing and cannot be opened from the folder. I keep getting this same error message with the following text file (see below).

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Please send me an email with directions.

Hi adrian b.16, I hope you're doing well!

Did you try quitting the app and relaunching it at all?  Could you check if this persists after rebooting your computer?

In any case, please keep me posted!

I read relevant posts here about missing icons from the Dropbox folder. I tried every "solution" as apparently Dropbox is not able to issue a fix. I ended up trying a full uninstall and then a clean install. Every time I start the installed app I get the error message and the attached text file ...have you read the text file and is anyone there competent enough to tell me what's wrong please ? Thank you.
