MacOS Sonoma: Can't see the Dropbox menu bar to open the GUI
I have no Dropbox menu icon (running macOS Sonoma 14.6.1 on an Apple M1 Pro).
Dropbox is syncing.
So following the advice here https://help.dropbox.com/installs/system-tray-menu-bar
(Note: after reinstall I was not prompted to login to my account)
I've killed Dropbox to be able to reinstall it - still no menu icon.
Dropbox is syncing.
I pay for Dropbox.
The real problem I'm trying to solve is how to modify my "selective sync" options ... but I'm going down a rabbit hole ...
The blocker is
- I can't open the Dropbox GUI - apparently the menu bar is the only way to open this (!!) and the icon isn't showing.
- I had to kill Dropbox to be able to re-install it
- Re-installing ... still no GUI icon ...
dropbox.py would have been a good workaround
- dropbox.py tells me "Dropbox isn't running"
- Dropbox is actually running and syncing ...
Hi @mjbright, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Do you have a lot of icons on your menu bar, which could be hiding the Dropbox icon?
Could you try quitting other apps to see if the Dropbox icon appears there?
Keep me updated with any progress!

I'm having the same issue on a 2023 MacBook Pro running Sonoma 14.6.1. I thought the same thing, but have deleted all optional icons and still no Dropbox icon. I've trashed both the app and my user data twice. When downloading and reinstalling Dropbox I get a message that states the account is linked and is missing the user data. I've relinked and everything comes back - but still no icon.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, medmagic.
Can you try our advanced reinstall steps, to see if they help?

Thanks, indeed that fixed the issue.
I must add - it would be really nice if Dropbox provided some other way of opening the GUI on macOS.
... and of course it would be so nice if macOS had a (much) better way of managing the menu bar
