How can I cancel and get a refund?
Please help! I was charged just shy of $200 on a DropBox acct that I did not know was there. Please help me cancel and get the refund
- Hi everyone,Here is some key info on cancelling accounts and refunds:If you want to claim a valid refund, you need to contact support for assistance. This is the safest way to process your personal info (i.e. bank account details, invoices etc) instead on our public forum. To cancel a paid Dropbox plan, you can follow these instructions. When cancelling, your account will change to Dropbox Basic at the end of your current billing cycle (monthly or yearly) and you should not be charged again.Apple/Direct DebitIf you purchased your Dropbox subscription via the Apple App Store, you need to reach out to Apple directly to request a refund. Apple's refund policy covers purchases made in the last 90 days only. More info here.If you paid for your Dropbox subscription by direct debit, you are able to request a chargeback through your bank, you can contact them to request a refund. If you did not create a Dropbox subscription and/or do not recognize the charge:
- Check your billing information (if you have an account). Log in to dropbox.com > Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the top-right corner > Click Settings > Click Billing.
- You can also use our Look up tool to check a credit or debit card purchase
- Contact support if you don’t have an account and/or would like to report an unauthorised transaction.
Notes on refunds:- If you live in the EU, UK, or Turkey, you qualify for a refund should you cancel your Dropbox Plus, Family, Professional, or Essentials subscription within 14 days of the initial purchase. You can contact support to request it.
- Refunds are often not offered for Dropbox subscriptions and team member licences.
- You're able to cancel your Paid Account at any time. Refunds are only issued if required by law, so make sure to cancel before your current billing cycle ends if you wish.
Hope this helps!Sam

Dropbox only refunds where legally required: https://help.dropbox.com/plans/refund
- Rozelle WinterNew member | Level 2I signed up for the free trial to look at photos for our volleyball team that was shared by a parent that took them for us.
I set in my calendar a reminder to cancel a few days before the trial ended.
It is impossible to figure out how to cancel navigating in my account, so I assumed I didn’t have to use a credit card to set it up to use the free trial. I was given no warning that it was going to charge, nor the option to cancel when I got a message saying the free trial is about to expire.
I don’t need a drop box account, and I definitely don’t want to pay $155.88 for an account I don’t want/need.
How can I get a refund for this charge and cancel my account?- MarkSuper User II
Upgrades are charged however you upgrade, so, my guess if you upgraded via an app store and therefore you agreed via the T&Cs to pay for the upgrade via that system after the trial.
You need to ask Dropbox (or the app store) about a refund and these are only given where legally required: https://help.dropbox.com/plans/refund

Hi, I forgot I had this dropbox account since I don't use it anymore and the renewal fee of $127.79 just showed up on my credit card statement without any previous notice of renewal. I just cancelled the account........how can I get a refund for this cancelled account?
Thanks for your help!

You need to ask support for help as unless legally obligated refunds are not offered: https://help.dropbox.com/plans/refund

Hi, as a college student, I opened a Dropbox Plus account for my coursework. I graduated last year and no longer use the DROPX PLUS account, and had forgotten about it until I saw the annual renewal charge for $127.80 on my credit card statement this month. Please advise how to cancel and get a refund.
Thanks!
- soulsofthewindNew member | Level 2I wasn’t able to cancel my subscription yesterday before I was charged a full years price. Also I signed up for the free subscription at the beginning and would like to be refunded. This is a-lot of money and I have small children and it was taken out on my birthday ;(

Hi there soulsofthewind, sorry to hear about this.
In such cases, I'd recommend that you reach out to our support team directly for further assistance as they'd be better equipped to help with your request.
To do this, use an incognito window without signing into any Dropbox account and fill in this form with all the relevant information and an email address we can reach you at.
Once you do this and you acquire a ticket number from our system, you can let us know the ticket ID so that we can look it up in our system too.
I hope this helps!

Upon checking my bank account I found two charges from Dropbox on December 20, 2021 and Dec 20, 2022 in the amount of $119.88 each. yet, when I go to dropbox.com to investigate these unauthorized charges (since I rarely use dropbox) I find that, officially on the website, I am listed as a free, basic subscription, so I’m wondering what the heck is going on!?! I need an immediate refund of both charges, since they are completely unauthorized, yet after hours of fruitlessly trying, I can’t contact anyone!

Hey Islandgirl005 , sorry to hear about this.
Can you please try the self served look up tool to identify the email address that's associated with the charges and let us know if it helps?Otherwise, you can use this form to contact our support team for further assistance on billing issues. Just make sure to use an incognito window without signing into any Dropbox account and fill in all the relevant information.
Once you get a ticket ID from our system, you can share it with us here so that we can look it up too.
Keep us posted anyhow!

Refunds are only issues where legally required.
To see if one is possible you need to speak to Dropbox support direct: www.dropbox.com/support
- nicholsonannalibertyNew member | Level 2Hi there. I started a free trial and realized this was not something I needed. I was just charged $119. I’m a college student and this is a lot of money for me. My bank will not help me with the refund which is what Dropbox has suggested I need to do. Is there any hope of me getting a refund, speaking to anyone that can help and downgrading my subscription?
- HannahDropbox Staff
Hey nicholsonannaliberty, thanks for reaching out to the Dropbox Community.
You mentioned that Dropbox suggested you reach out to your bank; did you already contact our support team about this?
If so, can you please send us the ticket number for your communication?

Hi,
I recently discovered that I am being billed and annual subscription from Dropbox. Having investigated, this has been happening for years and I somehow missed the money going out (each May). The only dealings I have ever had with Dropbox were back in 2015/16 (not sure of the exact date but it must be before May 2016 and after June 2015), when I needed to access some solicitors files from their Dropbox. I certainly never wanted a Dropbox subscription, and I think you must have transferred me to a paid subscription automatically at some point without informing me.
In any case, the first issue is that I want to cancel my subscription. But I no longer have access to the email address used to sign up. (I know the address and password but can’t get past the two-factor authentication.) I can give quite a lot of the payment details from the subscription as well, although it seems to be using a debit card that hasn’t existed for several years.
Secondly, I certainly want this year’s payment refunded. The money went out of my account the other week. I would also like to be able to speak to someone about what you will do about previous years payments, because I am not happy about being transferred onto an annual paid subscription without my knowledge, and I am very doubtful that it was lawful (no

Thank you Walter, I filled in that form a couple of days ago, but haven’t heard back. I’ve filled it out again (as I’ve found some further details of my old payment card). It does not give me a ticket number, only a message saying “Thanks, we’ll be in touch. We’ll respond to your help request in 1-2 business days.” I dropped an email to support@dropbox.com, which gave me ticket 22219465, and sent a chaser which generated ticket 22230497 . I’ll see what response appears
Cheers,
Chris Pulman
