Can't see files that someone has added to a Dropbox folder I created

Hello, I created and shared a folder from my Dropbox account with a collaborator from another country so that they could edit and add files to it. The collaborator has done so, however, the folder appears empty to me. The collaborator sent me a screenshot showing that within the original folder I created, another folder had been automatically created with the same name and a (1) attached. They added their files to that folder. I have tried renaming the original folder but still nothing in sight. What do I do or should they do so I can access the files? TIA.

Hey RoWow, thanks for posting here!

Are you unable to see the new folder that has been added on your desktop app, or your web account?

Besides that, is it possible you’re checking a different folder under the same name on your Dropbox account, which isn’t the one you shared with your collaborator?

Let me know, and we’ll have a look.

Hi Nancy - we are unable to see it in either the desktop or web versions and yes, it is definitely through the link I've shared. Thanks for responding, please don't worry about it now - we are going to use wetransfer instead to access the files as we need to get going on this. Thanks again for your prompt reply.

Hi RoWow, if you wish, I'd be happy to look a bit more into this!

You mentioned that you're using a link. Just wanted to clarify the steps that you used in order to share the folder with your collaborator.

Did you use a shared folder, or a shared link instead?

If you can't see the files in your account online either, that means their changes don't sync to your account online.

    Hello,

I created a shared folder for someone in another country to upload files. They have uploaded the files but I can't see them. They are not there whether I use the app, folder on my PC laptop, or go to my dropbox account online through a browser. I created the folder and set it anyone who has the link can view and edit, and sent the person the link, and also added their email to the shared folder.  I see a few others seem to have had the same problem, but I see no answer that works for me.

Hi there, nancy16! Welcome to the Dropbox Community!

Is it possible that the link you sent these users, was a "can view" link, instead of a "can edit" one?

If they received a "can view", saving the folder to their account, would only save a copy, not the actual folder.

Can you ask them to go to their "Shared" tab and see if they perhaps need to add the folder to their account from there?

It is a "can edit" link. I'll probably use google drive - the problem there was the email was freezing in outlook, but I finally managed to have it unfreeze long enough to forward the email to gmail, and from there I can click on all 34 files and download them - eventually. Dropbox would have been easier.

Hi - thanks for trying to help. I have been trying to figure this out and can't find my preferences. I must sound like an idiot - but I can't get past steps 1 (steps 1, 2, and 3, actually) - none of these things is visible to me. I have a dropbox folder on my desktop, or I got to dropbbox.com on a browser and look at the folders there. Can't find the preferences... can't get the dropbox icon to show up in the taskbar, don't see an avatar or my initials in top right.. arrrgghhh.

    1. Open your Dropbox desktop app preferences.
    2. Click the Dropbox icon in your taskbar.
    3. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the top-right corner.
