My account keeps saying it's full - but it isn't
Hi - I have a 6.3 GB basic account with less that 1.2 GB of data in it, but I keep getting notifications saying the account is full, and it isn't syncing. I've double checked my folders and cleaned out all deleted items, but it makes no difference. I have been unable to contact any sort of support through the website, so am hoping someone might know how to fix this. Thanks.

Dropbox has stopped working as it says I have exceeded my storage limit. I have completely permanently deleted all content e.g. files, shared folders, photos and have checked Events to see if I have missed anything. I have then logged off and reopened my account however the message is still there that I have exceeded my storage limit despite there being absolutely nothing stored. How can I get my account working again??

I'm in the same situation as you so don't have an answer. One other thing to check is if you have any backups from an external device or a backup of your desktop/download/documents etc. Other than that, I'm also waiting for an answer on this.

Hi @frot, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Deleted files don't take up space on your account, so removing there wouldn't have made any difference to the quota.
Is it possible you have a backup enabled and visible on this page on your account?
This will help me to assist further!

Hello,
For a few weeks now, Dropbox has been unable to sync my files.
When I use the online interface, it says that my Dropbox is full: "Used space: 43.25 Gb of 2 Gb".
However, I only have a few files and a small shared folder, accounting in total for about 50 Mb.
I have deleted every file and folder from my Dropbox and left every shared folder. The web interface shows that my Dropbox is completely empty.
However, it still says that it is full, with still more than 43 Gb used.
How can I solve this? Is there a way to reset my dropbox to 0 b used, wiping all files?
Thanks,
Thomas

My dropbox is indicating "Your personal dropbox is full using 2.6 regular files." I can't find the regular files that is using the space. I do not have any files in "Shared," "Deleted," "All files," etc. How do I locate these "regular files" and remove them and free up space! Thank you.

When I log into Dropbox it flashes "you are not syncing, dropbox is full." I was able to locate that it is regular files and not back up files.
Backup is NOT enabled at this time. It was and somehow when I put a flash drive in it backed it up. We deleted those files from backup, but it didn't clear them out of dropbox and it is still showing full "regular files"

Hello everyone!
I use drop box to sync journal articles between my desktop and my laptop, which uses about 500mb of space. My dropbox account has 5.75gb account.
After reconnecting Dropbox (for some reason it signed me out, i mistakenly said yes to letting it back up my documents folder which filled the space to 15gb, well over my limit). I've attempted to rectify the problem (at this point there are no backups, no folders or files are shared, nothing showing on drop box locally or online outside of the 500mb of journal articles) I even unlinked all my devices. But the problem remains it believes i have 15gb of storage used when I don't. Anyway to fix this, otherwise I'll need to drop dropbox and use something else!

My dropbox folder is empty. I have other users who have shared their folders with me, and yet I'm now being told by dropbox I've maxed out my 2GB and can't access anything anymore. I'm super frustrated with this. My own folder is empty, why does DropBox include anyone elses folder that they've shared with me, I would have thought what they shared with me would be their folder capacity not mine?

I came here to ask the same question. Someone sharing something with me, they have obviously paid for that storage. I just want to download the shared file.

I deleted hundreds of files to make space 2 weeks ago but my Dropbox still says that it’s full. I read that it can take time for it to show up as available space online. Space is not becoming available after deleting files/folders. I checked and the files are NOT shared. Why can’t I free up available space?- RichSuper User II

My Dropbox is pretending to be full. Though I only use a bit over 1 GB of storage. There seems to be some sort of hidden folders in my Dropbox that are taking up storage. I can't delete these. These Folders contain most likely an automatic backup of my external hard drive. How do I delete these hidden files. The folder name starts with "/transcend" (name of my external storage). Dropbox actually shows the files in the online-version when I type in /transcend in the searchbox
Can u help?
thanks a lot

You likely have the backup feature enabled. Check your Backups page.

I've had a free account for many years.
I never had any issues with it. It has 4.3GB space and I've never filled it.
It's now saying 5.28GB of 4.3GB is used but there is actually <1GB used.
On Windows Explorer I can see the file details.
It's trying to force me to buy more storage.
Is Dropbox forcing users to upgrade by making the account unusuable?
No matter what is deleted out of dropbox on Desktop, what's online is still the same 5.28GB which doesn't actually exist.
I can understand Dropbox wanting to sell their service rather than giving it away for free but it should be clear and transparent.

My account size has been bouncing around as I try to delete whatever is in the current dropbox.
It's gone up as high as 10GB and as lower as 4.8GB, its now back to 5.6GB.
It seems to be completely out of line with what is actually in Dropbox 594MB.
Very frustrating.
It's seems to be a con to me. Dropbox is making the free account unusable.
