My account keeps saying it's full - but it isn't
Hi - I have a 6.3 GB basic account with less that 1.2 GB of data in it, but I keep getting notifications saying the account is full, and it isn't syncing. I've double checked my folders and cleaned out all deleted items, but it makes no difference. I have been unable to contact any sort of support through the website, so am hoping someone might know how to fix this. Thanks.
- BanjistNew member | Level 2I have gone through and have deleted/trashed a whole lot of files since it has told me that I’m “over the limit”. Just for them to say I’m still over. Even though I haven’t added a single thing. Only have subtracted. Is this because I need to do something more on backend? Or just a **bleep**ty company that traps you into paying more and more even though they aren’t actually offering any more than before!

Hey Banjist, thanks for reaching out to us.
Is it possible that you're a member of any shared folders that might be taking up your space?
Or perhaps you've enabled the backup feature? Check your backups page for any files as well.

yes it was the backup on my Mac that did it.

I have the same issue with my 2.0GB free account. My dropbox is still syncing. I deleted everything except for a single small file. I immediately got another "not syncing" email! I think Dropbox is trying to get rid of all the free accounts so they can make it a paid-only service! This is an underhanded marketing tactic to make us pay something - and increase their revenue. I have Microsoft Office with 6TB of space and a 400GB Proton Drive. Time to let Dropbox go! But we should market their "Free for no one" tactics to bruise their ego a bit ...

Can you please explain to me why my new free account that has 2 GB of storage space is telling me that I have exceeded capacity by 9.7 GB when I have NOT POSTED ANYTHING. I do not understand how this is happening.

You likely enabled the backup feature. Check your Backups page.

Hey RolliezSez, apart from your backups page that Rich suggested, make sure to also check if you have any shared folders, because those also take up space in your account.
I hope this helps!

Dear Frot: it happened to me. These are the indications to solve your problem. They are in Spanish and I don't have time now to help you with the translation, but I will have some time. If you don't manage to solve your problem, write to me at [removed]* and we'll take it from there.

Got cut off: sorry about that. Here's the second part:
https://www.dropbox.com/backups/PC
Good luck! Etienne van Dam

Hey Adnil - sorry to jump in here, but I was wondering, have you quit and relaunched the app since you deleted those files from the website?
You might need to resume syncing as well, for the app to sync your changes.
As for permanently deleting your files, you can take a look here.
I hope this helps!

Hello Walter
I just uninstalled and reinstalled the desktop app on my Mac. When I open the icon in my menu bar I see the same thing as in my previous screenshot - a list of files waiting to sync.
I also just found this [screenshot] under my Subscription info, in case that helps in some way.
So essentially, it still says my storage is full.

Hi again, Adnil!
Can you also try unlinking - relinking your Dropbox app? Is the issue fixed after that?

Hello, I have 5.75 GB available in my free Dropbox.
Even though it's almost empty, it shows me over 5GB of data. Where are these consumed?
I can't upload anymore because it says I only have 2GB and should upgrade the rest.I deleted all shared files and the space occupied increased! Asked dropbox for help but they only give support for paid accounts. No argument to get in!

Hi bewe, I've merged you to this thread. Could you check the plan page to see where the quota is being used up?
- beweExplorer | Level 4
Hey Jay, thanks for helping me.
Although mostly all files have been deleted, even shared files and waste basket, it still shows more than 5 GB of data:

I have dropbox on my desktop using windows. I had a total of 8.25 GB available for me to use, and only 1.3 GB being used in my desktop dropbox. However dropbox says I'm using 16GB in one spot on the dropbox website, and that I'm using 23 GB in another spot on the dropbox website. But I'm not, I'm only using 1.3 GB. However dropbox won't let me add anything to dropbox since it says I'm out of space. I've gone on to the dropbox website and deleted everything I could find, and I made sure that I was no longer part of any shared folders, but dropbox is still saying that I have no space left. Does anyone know what's going on? If I've deleted everything, why does dropbox say I'm using space? How do I clear everything out so that the 1.3 GB that I want, are the only things left in dropbox?

Have you accidentally set up www.dropbox.com/backups ?

Hey Priya3, thanks for your post.
Is it possible that you have any shared folders or backups that are taking up your space?
- Britkit97Explorer | Level 3So in my app, on my phone OR opening the website anywhere, my Dropbox says I’m way over in space, but I don’t have anything in my files. I’m not sure how to access the stuff that it’s stored and I don’t know why/how it got stored there. I need to remove these things so I can use Dropbox again.. can anyone help me? If I could add pictures, I would. If what I said was unclear, let me know and I’ll try to further explain or maybe we can email.
I tried contacting support, and they couldn’t help because I have basic.- RichSuper User II
