CertFindCertificateInStore failed with: (-2146885628) Cannot find object or property.
As multiple other users have already reported over the last couple years, I am seeing many of these error events in my Windows 10 Event Viewer, all coming from the DbxSvc (Dropbox service) event source.
Can you all please fix your desktop client software to stop spamming my event logs with these errors? This issue has dragged on far, far too long already. Either stop emitting these errors, or fix the underlying problem.
Thank you.

I was wondering what was crashing my PC, so I checked the Event Manager. Every single crash was preceded by 6 to 12 instances of error messages regarding DbxSvc, Error 281, CertFindCertificateInStore failed with: (-2146885628).
Having read the thread now, the solution seems simple: If this asks for a certificate that just isn't there, it should stop asking for it.
I find it funny that support claims that its fundamentally not a big problem, when my PC is crashed by this error about once per hour. Must be nice not having work on your PC thats not important enough to lose it.
Can you please fix it?

I cannot believe how long it takes an experienced developer team to solve such a silly, easy issue.
And they provide the most important reasons for not paying for the service, in instance lack of trust and ability.

For the record, this error still exists as of 2024-07. It is genuinely shameful that this has been kept for so long.

I confirm, 2024-08 still there.

And 3 years later the exact same problem is still going on. I really don't think they actually know how to fix this error.

Yep, started recieving this error recently too ; Dropbox crashes multiple times a day, I don't realize I haven't been uploading and a massive backlog is created. Any fixed it yet?

Experiencing this same issue - Laptop has had multiple BSOD that has required a hard reboot because of "CertFindCertificateInStore failed with: (-2146885628) Cannot find object or property." Following this thread so I know when I can download the desktop client again - not worth the trouble until this gets fixed.

Brand new Win 11 install, Dropbox causes this issue which causes hard fault / BSOD. Unable to use Dropbox app at all. Replicated on two clean installs.
Switching my business accounts to OneDrive immediately due to this issue.

I can confirm that the problem with random crashes/reboots are due to Dropbox (DbxSvc).
I've never had this problem before and a couple of weeks ago my computer started to behave strangely. I tried to find out the culprit and always at the times when the crashes/reboots occurred then DbxSvc had an error entry in the Event Viewer.
I found this thread and decided to disable DbxSvc and shut down Dropbox. After I did that then no more crashes/reboots for 4 days now. With DbxSvc on the computer crashed/rebooted 4-5 times per day.
So now I'm leaving Dropbox and moving elsewhere (MEGA, OneDrive). Thanks for the time Dropbox but your inability to acknowledge and fix this problem is inexcusable.

This problem should be elevated to the top of the stack. For me it often causes a complete lockup requiring a hard boot to recover. The system will not even respond to CAD. This is a recipe for disaster. I kept looking for a contributing cause, but after digging into the problem I found there is none. I can't be the only one being impacted in this manner. I would guess that many users with this problem are unable to track it to the source, so it goes unreported.

Since I uninstalled Dropbox my computer has been running 24/7 for 2 weeks now without ANY problems... There were other issues as well that I did not link to Dropbox (graphic issues and other things) but they have also disappeared... Something is very wrong with DbxSvc...

Mine actually crashes my PC because I work in the dropbox folder with Adobe After Effects.
My guess is the DbxSvc (Dropbox service) error plus Ae trying to do multiple callouts on files managed by my dropbox app end in critical failure.
I tried Windows 10 and 11 clean installs and nothing.
Still waiting for the fix from dropbox.
