Dropbox for MacOS update and existing links

"Due to the change of the Dropbox folder location, files that were previously linked in some third-party applications will need to be linked again."

Does this mean that all of my previous Dropbox links will become invalid following this update? Because that's ... bad. Like, will bring down my whole web-store bad. Like, hours and hours of work to fix bad.

That's not referring to shared links. It's referring to a file having an embedded link to another file elsewhere on your computer. For instance, an Excel file that has links to other Excel files for data, or a Word document having images that are linked from an external file. Many types of files can have embedded links, and these links typically use the full path to the linked file. With the Dropbox folder structure moving in the new update for macOS, those paths will change which would break those links, requiring them to be updated with the new path.
