34 TopicsPhone stolen - what happens to the files if the thief deletes them?
Hello everyone, I've had this question in my mind since joining the paid version of DropBox and after not receiving answers from the Contact support question, I'm humbly putting it to you, with the hope that you can help me out in securing my DropBox. My question is the following: my smartphone is connected to my online DropBox, which is good, meaning everytime I receive a photo it is automatically uploaded to my online DB and I can delete it from my phone knowing that it's available online from anywhere. But what happens if: someone steals my phone, connects to the DropBox (which he/she would not need my password for since I'm automatically connected) and deletes my photos and files. They will disappear from the online version, therefore I will not have access to them either through my phone or through another device since they've been deleted already. What can I do to avoid that, i.e. to make sure that everything that's posted online will remain there? (This includes other files that I am synchronising from my smartphone like bookmarks or contacts). The reason that I am asking is that the main reason to pay for an extended DropBox was to make available my files and photos to myself from anywhere in the world, but if all it takes for those to disappear permanently is for someone to take my smartphone that is on and get into my DB and delete everything, then I wonder if my files and photos are secure enough and what I should do to further protect them. Thanks so much in advance and have a great day/night all, from wherever/ whenever you are reading this message!Solved1.7KViews0likes4CommentsSuspected hacked personal account
I suspect my account hacked today so I'd like to ask for some guidance. 1. I found some files missing. I am pretty sure I created a folder and copied some files into this folder and I have used them a few times over the past two weeks, but today I found both the folder and files are missing from my Dropbox. Surprisingly I can not see any record, under event, or deleted items for these files. So I am wondering if it is possible for the hackers to delete them completely and they can never been restored? I thought it will be kept by Dropbox for 30 days as a minimum. 2. I can see a unknown computer has visited my account so I am wondering if Dropbox can provide additional details. Thanks,Solved1.4KViews0likes7CommentsHaving trouble deleting my account
I'm trying to delete my account as I'm not using it. When I go under Settings and click on Delete Account it asks for the password which in my case is my Google password since when I first signed up I signed up with my Google account, but for some odd reason it's telling me it's the wrong username/password. Hi. If someone hacks my laptop and deletes all my files, they will be asked “Do you want to delete everywhere?” They will surely say yes, and all my files on Dropbox are also deleted – so I have no way of recovering my files. Please advise how Dropbox protects me from this scenario and/or what I have to do to maintain the security of my files.Solved1.1KViews0likes8CommentsThis account has been marked as inactive

I retired two years ago and cancelled the email address associated with my business. This email address was also associated with my dropbox account. I have transferred over all of those files into a new Dropbox account but am unable to delete the old account. This means that when I hit the dropbox icon, it takes me to my old empty Dropbox, not the new one. Help please and thank you.Solved845Views0likes7Comments
