I'm dealing with a very frustrating problem on all 3 of my Windows 11 machines and I suspect a recent Dropbox update may be the culprit. When I press the Start button and search for a particular file or folder, the result shows up in "best match" but it's not fully loaded. Instead, the preview/details pane to the right just sits as a blank gray box for 5-10 seconds before the gray box finally populates. Only that point can I click on the "open file location" button and get to the right place in file explorer. Similarly, if I immediately click on the particular file/folder in "Best Match," there's a 5-10 second lag between when I click on the file/folder and when the file/folder opens up or goes to the right place in file explorer. It's making all of my computers almost unusable for productivity tasks.1.3KViews0likes14CommentsDropbox Web: "Open in File Explorer" option diseapeared overnight
Hello everyone, I frequently use the search feature in Dropbox Web to locate files on my hard drive, as it’s much more efficient than searching in Windows. After finding the file, I used to right-click and choose the “Open in File Explorer” option from the “Open with” menu to access the folder on my local drive. However, as of last night, this option seems to have disappeared. Has Dropbox recently removed this feature from the Web interface, or is there a way to restore it? This functionality is crucial for my workflow, so any insights or workarounds would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!159Views0likes1CommentMake offline files visible in the android filesystem
I think you should make files stored offline on Android available in the file system. As it is now, the dropbox files marked as 'available offline' are hidden from the rest of the operating system. This gives a number of problems: 1: When opening a file in an app, that app may put the file path in its 'most recently used documents'-list. However, since the path it gets from the Dropbox-app is not long-lived, the 'most recently used documents'-list becomes unusable, since the links on it become dead rather quickly. 2: It makes using browsing apps, like photo viewers or podcast players, on your offline files impossible. 3: Some apps expect content to be found on the file system. For example, the samsung app used to download content onto a samsung smart watch, expects to find files in the file system. It cannot be used to download files from dropbox onto the smart watch. 4: Sometimes a smart phone is used a bit like a computer. Like uploading files to an FTP-server and the like. A FTP-client typically expects to find files on the file system, and allows them to be selected and uploaded. This does not work with Dropbox. A possible work-around is to export the contents from the dropbox offline folder onto the phones regular file system. This is unsatisfactory because: 1) It feels cumbersome. The number of clicks to send a podcast episode to a smart watch, or to download a .pdf from dropbox and upload to an FTP-server, becomes a few too many. 2) For files which can be edited (like password manager saves, various profiles, text documents etc), the user needs to remember to copy the file back to Dropbox, which is very error prone. Dropbox obviously already has technology to synk a file system folder with dropbox. Could not this functionality be offered on smart phones also?19KViews86likes82CommentsBacked up files disappeared from my laptop but are visible on the website
Hi I have my documents on my laptop synced to Dropbox and I went on my Files on my laptop before and all my documents had disappeared. I went on Dropbox and it showed I have a new backup location instead of PC, by backups now go to PC2, I'm not sure why it did this but I don't know how to get this folder back on my laptop documents so that I can access all my work on my laptop. Does anyone know why this backup switched location? And how can I restore all my work to my laptop? Thanks1.7KViews0likes18CommentsIf I wipe my Mac clean, will all my files still be on Dropbox after I reinstall it?

After updating my Mac, I can only see the Dropbox folder itself in my favorites. When I access the folders from online it defaults to all files and then I have to select the Shared tab to access the files I need. I previously could access them from favorites but after reinstalling Dropbox, I still cannot access Shared files for Dropbox on my desktop app on my Mac. I am currently running Sonoma 14 3.1 as well.382Views0likes1CommentI installed Dropbox on my computer but I cannot locate it
I just installed Dropbox on a new computer (or it acted as though I did). It even found my existing files on my old computer and says it uploaded them for me. But where is it? I'm accustomed to finding Dropbox among the hidden files in the system tray (I believe it's called). But there's no Dropbox there, and also nothing by that name in either Program Files or Program Files (86). And a simple search for Dropbox in File Explorer has found nothing after about 15 or 20 mnutes of searching.512Views0likes3CommentsApp tells me I can switch to File Provider but it won't do it
Hi I'm on macOS 14.3 and dropbox keeps giving me the notification "Dropbox for macOS on File Provider is now ready Update Dropbox to use it on the latest version of macOS on File Provider." But when I run the update, nothing changes. I'm running v191.4.4995. I've tried downloading and installing, too.Solved1.4KViews0likes3Comments
