I linked my Mac on a different account, that is empty. What do I do?

I have a NEW MAC and uploaded the Dropbox app to the desktop using a business email instead of my personal one which I have always used, has expanded memory and ALL my files.  Now every time I open Desktop the empty account comes up and I have to log into my original account.  I am beyond frustrated with this as I need my files backed-up daily and do not want files to inadvertently start getting saved to the new account.   I have read other responses that say you cannot link 2 personal accounts, one must be a business account.   The only way I can see my Dropbox experience files working seamlessly is by making one of these accounts a business account.   Am I correct?   Is this possible?   What's it going to cost me.  I already paid $100 for DropboxPlus.   HELP

Did you ever figure this out? I have the same problem and have lost access to all of my dropbox files via my computer. I cannot find a solution online. So frustrated!

      Hi LissaSmile

The issue has been resolved if you follow the steps given. You need to signout of the account you incorrectly signed in to and back in to the one that you should have. That will download everything for you.

I have had a DropBox account for years (free version). I am wanting to switch the files in the Drop Box from an old email address to a new email address. I do not want to synch and have both (I know one has to be a business account if you keep two email addresses).

How do I switch the files to the new email address; so I can then delete the old email address from my DropBox account?

I have DropBox on my iPhone and can seemingly get to the files I want (old email address) but, I am not seeing those files on my iMac...

    Thank you. Anne

Hey Anne McIntosh, thanks for joining the discussion here.

Is there a Dropbox account already associated with the new email address?

If not, you can just change the email address of your account through your account's settings online.

Otherwise, you could put all the content of one account inside a folder and share that folder with the new account as desired.

I hope this helps and please keep us posted on your progress, Anne.

Hi Anne;  yes there is a Dropbox account associated with the new email.    As I was setting up the new MAC and downloaded dropbox onto the desktop it must have picked up the business email and I gave it a password. . . don't ask me how.  Anyway, the big thing is that I save all my docs to drop box.  It's aggravating because if I upload the app to the MAC, no matter how many times I have tried it goes right to the other account that has nothing in it.  So every time I save a doc now I have to open my original Dropbox account to add any doc.   It is not seamless, very aggravating, and really an inconvenience.  Maybe I have to consider another source of saving my docs.

Hi Cyndi Lombardo, let's jump right into this!

If I understand the situation correctly, it seems that you accidentally linked the wrong Dropbox account to your Mac, and you need to know how to use your personal account, is that correct?

Feel free to correct me if this isn't your end goal here.

Keep in mind, that you can always sign out from one account on the app, and sign back in using your personal Dropbox account. If you wish to have both linked and synced to the app, you'd need to have a personal, and a Business account. You can see  more in regards to our business plans here

    I hope this helps!
