Won't stop indexing on Mac
I installed the mac dropbox update and the application began indexing my files. It has now been stuck for the last few days. I can only access some files. Many are now only available through dropbox.com and not in my app. If I add files to dropbox.com they are added to the indexing queue of the desktop app, but no progress is made regarding indexing. I've tried signing out, quitting, uninstalling, and reinstalling. I've seen similar threads, but no solutions have worked for me. Any help is much appreciated.
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for your patience while we investigated. We have confirmed that the problem with resyncing has been resolved with macOS Sonoma 14.1. Users should not experience a resync when upgrading to 14.1.
Upgrading to 14.1 will prevent resyncing, but it will not resolve this issue for users who have already become 'stuck' on the resync upon upgrading to 14.0. We can help, but we're asking that users contact support for individual assistance.
Regards,
Ben

Aprendo l'app sull'iPhone invece funziona tutto.
Qualche suggerimento? grazie

Updated to Sonoma last night and experienced similar issues: Dropbox indexing and re-syncing all day. It wasn't practical since I was frequently on the move (on/off internet), plus completely unnecessary since all my files were already downloaded offline. Process took long without any issues until it was busy with the last file and then got stuck on 'syncing 1 file' then 'syncing'.. Quitting and restarting is not helping. Plus, all the files I'd been working on today are marked as conflicted although I did find a way to quickly identify these by checking 'folder activity' on Dropbox.com. Also, looks like the conflicted files were created when Dropbox completed indexing/began syncing. Maybe this helps someone avoid or fix the aftermath.
Also, not sure if relevant but noticed that Dropbox automatically reverted the 'New files default' setting from 'Available offline' to 'Online-only' under Preferences > Sync. Perhaps this had something to do with the indexing + re-syncing everyone is experiencing.
Ps: Still need to do a proper check for other conflicted files and disappearing/deleted files. Will update if that's the case.

Small update: after dealing with the conflicted files and doing some clean up (moving folders and deleting items), dropbox is now stating that my 'files are up to date'- SaylorvilleExplorer | Level 4
I'm now up to 14 days since anything has updated...

The only fix is this: Add another Admin user to your Mac. Log out of your existing user. Log into the new user and setup dropbox app in the new user account. It will index and complete. Then just copy all your all user documents etc... to new user. After you have all your document etc copied to new user, delete the original user account. I have 5 Macs. This worked on all of them. Don't waste time trying other things. I tried them all.

This should not be the solution...
A voi funziona così?

This is the FIX after the Sonoma update on MAC OS:
Add a new ADMIN user to your MAC.
Logout of original user account.
Login to NEW ADMIN account.
Setup dropbox in new account.
Allow a few hours to sync to completion.
While it's syncing copy your non-dropbox files from the old account to the new account.
Then delete the original account.
User NEW account now.
Done.

Hello,
I recently updated my MacBook Air to the latest MacOS (Sonoma). After this update was completed, I noticed that the Dropbox app would not work at all. It won't sync anything. Will there be a new update for the app for Mac computers? I am currently running version v184.4.6543.Here's what I tried so far:
- Deleted the Dropbox app off of my computer and reinstalled it (no improvement)
- Restarted my Mac SEVERAL times (no improvement)
- Tried signing off of the app and re-signed in (and no improvement)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!- WalterDropbox Staff
Hey aaronmgould, sorry to hear about this.
Could you please install the latest stable version of the app from this page and let us know if the issue persists?
If it does, I'd appreciate a screenshot of any errors you might be getting too.
Thanks!

Hello! Thanks so much for your quick reply. Which stable version should I consider downloading? Also, where can I find this?
Thank you again so much! Have a wonderful day!

Hi!
Since last week, I've been observing that my files created on my Mac are not being uploaded to Dropbox server. Also, files created on other devices (such as my Windows PC at work) are not being dowloaded. The Dropbox icon is eternally signaling "Indexing" but nothing is happening. I called Apple today, and they suspect that Dropbox is not updated to work with MacOS Sonoma.
I need some help to solve this issue, because I've accessed FAQ and it was not successful, and I'm afraid to lose my recent updates on my files.
Thank you.

Hey Durval L, thanks for bring this to our attention.
Your case sounds a lot like this discussion. Could you have a look there and confirm that you've tried the troubleshooting steps mentioned there?
Thanks so much!

Hi!
Thank you for your message.
Indeed, I've tried all the options mentioned in that post. The version of dropbox is up to date, because I've tried to reinstall it; Full access to disk is granted; antivirus was turned off during some time, but nothing happened. That is, sadly, trouble remains.
Best regards,

3 days of indexing .., No amount of sign in and out or reinstalling is making any difference. Support seems clueless with no solutions offered.

Same problem. After the Sonoma Update, Dropbox didn't sync data and after deinstalling the APP, its imposible to reinstall. Lucky to put o date didn't do the update on the MAC Book!
- cloudresExperienced | Level 12
Has anyone happened to try updating to MacOS Sonoma 14.1? The update was released yesterday.
- KonigiHelpful | Level 6
Hi cloudres, I updated to macOS 14.1 yesterday and indeed... it's not fixed. So my prediction was wrong here!
matthi: you're right, I am puzzled by why Dropbox is not reaching all its Mac customers, telling them not to upgrade (as they did previously on a certain 12.X update) or do so at their own risk. The communication level is quite poor this time. A simple pop-up on Macs would have done the job.
CHRISTIAN ARCOS: no, I am not a Dropbox employee. I am a user like we all are here, experiencing the same issue as you do. It's not because I emitted the hypothesis that the issue may be due to Apple that I am defending Dropbox in this case.
Programming is complicated. Betas don't allow to fix all the issues. What is particularly disappointing is Dropbox's lack of communication.
