Erroneous "Your Dropbox is full" message

I am getting a regular "Your Dropbox is full" pop-up - but I have plenty of space.

This 'appears' to have become a problem since I've added a Work dropbox - though that meay be a red herring.

I get the message despite my personal dropbox only showing 6.6GB  of 8.88GB used and my work dropbox showing 300.7MB of 2GB used.

  • Drat. Was going to direct you to the thread for that official build, but, it doesnt exist!

Can I suggest logging a ticket at http://bit.ly/cm-support and maybe copying in this threads URL? Replies may take time, especially as its a bank holiday weekend but you can track at http://dropbox.zendesk.com

My dropbox says its full, but with myself and team together, we aren't even using a fraction of the allotted space. It keeps trying to get me to upgrade to business. We don't need all that, we just need what we have to work.

Dropbox says my terabyte drive is full, I deleted most of that months ago. It still says it is full, and fails to sync. There is nothing in the deleted file.  I have contacted Dropbox, and have received nothing helpful. I plan to cancel, if not resolved soon.

I'm on Windows 10 and I'm getting a Traytip in the lower right hand corner of my screen that says my Dropbox is full. However, it's not, I'm only using 60% of the space available. I've confirmed this using the Dropbox settings menu, and also confirmed it looking at the web interface under account settings. The Traytip message is inaccurate and annoying, and pops up randomly throughout the day.

Here are some screenshots that show exactly what I'm seeing.

If you have a shared folder inside your Dropbox then it uses up your quota. Therefore if you need access to it you need to get more space either via referrals, or, paying.

      Hi Mark,

Thanks for the prompt response. Those quutas are from the account link - and disk space is plentiful. Not sure how to determine the version of dropbox; please advise. Off to bed now so will be a few hours before I respond again.

If you mouse over the Dropbox icon on your status bar it'll tell you the version number (e.g. mine is 23.4.19).

For the last few weeks, I keep receiving a Pop-Up Message in the bottom right-corner of my Windows 7 machine to Upgrade, when I first turn on my computer, since I have run out of storage.  I do not want to upgrade at this time and want to disable this message. I know that I have to Upgrade eventually, so I don't need to be notified every time on turn on my computer.  I have checked the Preferences in the General section, and there's no option to disable notiications. Please help!

Only options in the General section to check or uncheck , is System  "Start DropBox on System Start-up", Notify Me About "Comments, Shares, or @mentions" and "Synced Files" , then Dropbox Badges.

I've only gotten this message once (unsurprisingly after I temporarily maxed out my storage sharing one massive file). If I keep getting these annoying popups, I'm going to switch to one of the other 800 services that does the same thing as Dropbox and doesn't pester me for a subscription plan I don't need or want. It infuriates me that Windows allows this crap in the first place.

Guess I'm here to say what I'm moving to another product. Mostly because of this annoying notification on all my desktops.

I just wanted to echo my fellow users here by saying that I detest the nag message and have finally come to the end of my tether with it. Even though I'm at 80% capacity, I currently have a nag popup in the corner of my screen that I CAN NOT DISMISS. Unforgivable.

I'll be making steps to move to an alternative service ASAP.

    I have the same problem...

    Notification message

    And I have free space:

    Account free space

    My dropbox version:

    Dropbox version

This began when i tried to save a large shared folder in my dropbox account, but I deleted this folder when it throw the "Your Dropbox is full" message warning.

I checked the "Deleted files" folder and this folder is not showing there (this folder was deleted 2 or 3 months ago).

Do I need to create another topic to solve this?

As its the same version Gaabriee please also log a ticket.

Before you do that though please check that you have actually left that share at www.dropbox.com/share as it could still be sitting on some quota.

        Hello Mark,

Is not there, but shared folders quota is included in Account settings > Space section > Shared files, right?

On both my desktop and a fresh install of the app on my new laptop are telling me that I've no space left in my dropbox account. both machines have well in excess of 100GB locally available on the drive with the local dropbox files.

If i log into the dropbox site and visit  my account settings i can see:

    Space (Dropbox Basic)

511.3 MB of 3 GB used
    Regular files (511.3 MB)
    Shared files (0 bytes)
    Unused space (2.5 GB)

I've tried removing the app and reinstalling it but to no avail. The android dropbox app on my phone doesn't have the same problem.

Any idea what's going on here? The application seems to feel the need to alert me every 30mins or so and it's beggining to be annoying to the point I've concidered removing the app and using it via the web gui only.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there, OliverHill, welcome to our forum!

Just to make sure, are these devices logged in to the same account as the one you’re checking online?

If so, I would like to ask that you submit a support ticket here https://t.co/HWF7u81OSj so one of our agents can investigate further, and get this over to the right team of specialists if needed.

Thanks, and have a great weekend :sunglasses:

Hi Sanchez, yes they are both linked to the same Dropbox account. My android phone is also linked to this account and this doesn't alert me to any space problems. I only have one dropox account.

I've followed your advice and raised a support ticket.

        Many thanks

How did you delete them on your computer? When you deleted them on the computer they should also delete on the website - did that happen?

Or, did you use Selective Sync which just stops syncing to that local device, but, does not stop it being in your account etc.

      Hey @dvera

      Welcome to the Dropbox Community!

I’ve moved your post here, so that you check whether any of the replies above help you resolve the notification issue you’ve experienced.

As a first step, please try unlinking your account to the website, rebooting once and then relinking.

If this persists, a fresh re-installation will probably help you resolve that.

Please let me know how this works for you in your reply!

      Thanks,
      JaneA

Hi. When turn on my computer I always get the message (Windows 10 notification) that my dropbox is full and I should upgrade.

Currently my Dropbox is only 62.4% full, since I deleted stuff because of the error message.

But it won't disappear. I even reinstalled Windows, but the message stays.

System info: Windows 10 Home x64, Dropbox Version 30.4.22

The following steps solved this issue for me:

      1. Unlink account

      2. Reboot

      3. Uninstall Dropbox

      4. Reboot

      5. Reinstall Dropbox

      6. Relink account

I followed these steps and this is what happened:

        1. Unlink account

        2. Reboot

        3. Uninstall Dropbox

        4. Reboot

        5. Reinstall Dropbox > Account was relinked automatically. I didn't have to enter email & password. Warning reappeared.

        6. Rebooted again after synching.. Warning reappeared.

Hey pOOB73, welcome to our forum!

Would you mind doing an unlink-relink and see if the issue persists? If it does, then please write in to our support team here, so our team can take a closer look and investigate.

      Thanks!

Thanks. The unlink-link/reinstall Dropbox / Reinstall Windows didn't help. The Message reappears.

I cannot open a support ticket. I only get a spinning waiting circle forever.

I've tried Chrome and Edge (latest versions) without an ad blocker. Will try with IExplore later at work.

I also did receive a Dropbox full message with downgrade to basic.

I received an email this morning stating that Dropbox has tried several times to collect a Monthly fee of 9.99.

In reality I have paid for a year ending not before end of November.

      Urgent help required!

I can not use Dropbox anymore.

When did you start getting the message that your account is full? Was it just recently or did you always get that message?

I initially got the message when my dropbox was actually full, but then I deleted a lot of my data and the error now comes up permanently
