Can't access email to get 6-digit code
I can login successfully, but needs me to check 6-digit code in email.
Before immigration, login dropbox never needs me to check 6-digit code in email.
After immigration, it needs me to check 6-digit code in email. (same computer)
My email account was disabled (long time no use and I forgot the password), I can't login to my email to check the 6-digit code.
I only want to login Dropbox without check email 6-digit code, so what can I do?
Thanks
Paddy123, is there any chance you have any devices that are still linked to that Dropbox account (via a desktop/mobile app)?
If yes, please check their notifications as the one-time code may be there.
Let me know how that goes.

I am trying to access my Drop Box account, but the security code is being sent to an inactive email address. I have the login information and the password, but I cannot access the 6 digit code because I have moved on from my previous school district. I had changed grades and have not used my account in a few years. I am moving back to the previous grade level and all my curriculum content is in this Drop Box. I am shocked that the company does not have to contact them. They have been so helpful in the past, especially to educators. I am willing to upgrade, but cannot get a hold of anyone to even do that. I have been round and round on their site. I have been directed to login in order to access anything....I cannot do that. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, if you've forgotten your password or you're being prompted for a one-time security code sent to your email, without access to the email address, you likely won't be able to gain access to the Dropbox account. Your best option is to contact the administrators of your old email and see if they can recreate it, even temporarily, so you can receive the security code.
Failing that you can try to contact Support but they have said publicly that without access to the email, they won't provide access to the Dropbox account. Visit the Support page while you're NOT signed in to a Dropbox account, including these forums, and you'll see an option for sign in issues. It's best to use an Incognito or Private browsing session to make sure you're not signed in.

Thank you Rich! This is so sad. I have years of work in my Dropbox. They use to have such amazing customer care. The district switched to google after I left, so I am sure all is lost. Makes me sick. Also makes me wonder if Dropbox is worth the usage. I appreciate your support.
- LPHExplorer | Level 3Dear all,
I'm at a loss right now. I tried to log into an old account of mine which I haven't used in at least 4 years. The login itself worked but then I'd have to enter a 6 digit code which was sent to all former connected devices which aren't in my possession anymore. Is there a way to get this code otherwise or how am I going to be able to log into my account again? Every help is much appreciated!- WalterDropbox Staff

Hello, unfortunately I can’t login anymore because my e-mail was deleted (but I perfectly remember my login), so I can’t receive the 6 digit code.
My files are still in Dropbox and I really need them - So how can I get them? Please help me, thank you!- RichSuper User II

Unfortunately, if you're being sent a one-time security code and you no longer have access to the email registered with Dropbox, there's no way to access the account without having another device already signed in to the account to receive the code.
Your best option is to contact your mail provider and see if they can restore your email account so you can receive the one-time security code.

Hi
i haven't used lately my dropbox account. I know the login and the password. However, i cannot login because a 6 digit code keeps being sent to the email address. Problem is my registered e-mail account is not working anymore because the e-mail client has shutdown permanently. All the help topics say to login and go to setting. However, we cannot login.
Can anyone help me please?

Without access to the email address, you won't be able to sign in. The only possibilities are if you already have another active device linked to the Dropbox account that can receive the code, or if you can gain access to the email address again.

Good morning. I set up a DropBox with my old company's e-mail address. Being that I left that organization, that e-mail address is no longer valid and I can no longer access this DropBox file(s). Any suggestions here are appreciated!

If you've forgotten your password or are being sent a one-time security code, there won't be a way to access the account without access to the email address. Your best option is to contact your former company and see if they'll restore your email account, even if it's temporary.

Without access to the email address you won't be able to sign in to the account. Your best option if you need to sign in is to contact your old employer and see if they can give you access to the email, or at least forward you the security code when it arrives.

Thanks for posting on the forum, Lani109!
I'd like you to clarify something for me first; do you happen to have any devices that are still linked to that Dropbox account (the one whose email address you can no longer access)? If you do, please check the Notifications section. The one-time code may be there.
Let me know what you find.

i am having the same issue with one of my account. I no longer have the acceso to the email box but i do have my password for dropbox, and beceause of the 6 digit code i can't acceses. Please yot help with this.
- NancyDropbox Staff
Hey ARCHIVOfis!
Out of curiosity, do you have any devices that are still linked to the same Dropbox account?
If yes, the one-time code should already be sent as a notification there.
Let me know what you find.

Hi Asfiya! It sounds like you're receiving the one-time security code, which is different to 2FA (2FA codes are usually sent to your mobile device, and not your email address).
Can you currently access this email address, so that we can log a ticket for you instead?
- AsfiyaExplorer | Level 4Yes
Currently m using this email.
And i am talking about 6 digit verification code which is asked while signing in.
- rgcart17New member | Level 2
I cannot login to my account due to:
1) When I provide the correct login credentials, it asks me for the 6-digit code emailed to me to finish logging in.
2) The email associated with the account is no longer active; the email service provider is out of existence and therefore the email cannot be accessed (permanently)
3) The only way to change me email address is to Login and change it in the settings... See "1)" as to why this is not possible.
Drop box will not reply to the support tickets I have opened previously and they will not let me get in touch with a live representative. They still charge my subscription fee for this account too... Help?

If you're being sent a one-time security and you don't have access to the email address, there's no way to sign in. The only alternative is if you have another active device already linked to the account with which you can receive the code.
If you're on a paid account you can contact Support to cancel any future billing, but they typically will not provide access to the account. Visit the Support page while you're NOT signed in to a Dropbox account, including these forums, and you'll see an option for Billing issues. It's best to use an Incognito or Private browsing session to make sure you're not signed in.
If you have an existing ticket number, reply here with it and maybe a Dropboxer can check on it. If the tickets are closed, I'd open a new one under Billing Issues as described above.

I have so many files and photos that are dearly important to me... There is 0 way to access an account without that email access? There is NO way to override that with a live representative or some internal support system?
It is your own software, how is there no way to verify my identify besides emailing an email that someone is attempting to change...? A live representative would not be able to assist?

Hi
This is happening to me too.
I have the email and password and it still wants to send a 6 digit code to the email I no longer have access to. I would like to actually retrieve the photos from this account.
How can I do this please?
- MeganDropbox Staff
Hi mairiclaire76, welcome to our Community!
The 6 digit security code is used when you access the Dropbox account from a different location for security purposes, so without access to the email linked to the Dropbox account, things might be a little tough.
We also can't send the code to a different email address, I'm afraid.
Do you have any old, connected devices that would help you see the files in the account and download them?
Keep me posted!
- mairiclaire76Explorer | Level 3
The email provider has closed down now so they no longer exist it was the old fsmail. They closed the whole service years ago.
I know the password though for drop box that was used with that email.
There is no old devices as all phone and laptop are new with current gmail address.
Is there any way I can get into this?. That all my daughters photos and videos gone other wise from when she was little.
Can the security be removed?

I have Drop box account that is linked to an email that is no longer valid. When logging on, this app insists on sending a code to the defunct email to grant access. Obviously, I cannot see that code and cannot get access to my files. How do I change the access from the defunct email to the new email?
Thank you
