Can't access email to get 6-digit code
I can login successfully, but needs me to check 6-digit code in email.
Before immigration, login dropbox never needs me to check 6-digit code in email.
After immigration, it needs me to check 6-digit code in email. (same computer)
My email account was disabled (long time no use and I forgot the password), I can't login to my email to check the 6-digit code.
I only want to login Dropbox without check email 6-digit code, so what can I do?
Thanks
Paddy123, is there any chance you have any devices that are still linked to that Dropbox account (via a desktop/mobile app)?
If yes, please check their notifications as the one-time code may be there.
Let me know how that goes.

I am trying to access my Drop Box account, but the security code is being sent to an inactive email address. I have the login information and the password, but I cannot access the 6 digit code because I have moved on from my previous school district. I had changed grades and have not used my account in a few years. I am moving back to the previous grade level and all my curriculum content is in this Drop Box. I am shocked that the company does not have to contact them. They have been so helpful in the past, especially to educators. I am willing to upgrade, but cannot get a hold of anyone to even do that. I have been round and round on their site. I have been directed to login in order to access anything....I cannot do that. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance!
- LPHExplorer | Level 3Dear all,
I'm at a loss right now. I tried to log into an old account of mine which I haven't used in at least 4 years. The login itself worked but then I'd have to enter a 6 digit code which was sent to all former connected devices which aren't in my possession anymore. Is there a way to get this code otherwise or how am I going to be able to log into my account again? Every help is much appreciated!- WalterDropbox Staff

Unfortunately, if you've forgotten your password or you're being prompted for a one-time security code sent to your email, without access to the email address, you likely won't be able to gain access to the Dropbox account. Your best option is to contact the administrators of your old email and see if they can recreate it, even temporarily, so you can receive the security code.
Failing that you can try to contact Support but they have said publicly that without access to the email, they won't provide access to the Dropbox account. Visit the Support page while you're NOT signed in to a Dropbox account, including these forums, and you'll see an option for sign in issues. It's best to use an Incognito or Private browsing session to make sure you're not signed in.

You are amazing Rich! The circle of endless help ended, I was actually able to send an email explaining my situation. Here's hoping someone answers and can help. Like I said, customer service used to be superb. Fingers crossed.

I'm trying to access my dropbox account. I'm able to type in my user and password but it's asking for a 6 digit code that was sent to an email that doesn't exist anymore so I can't get the code.
Please help.

- I haven't used the Dropbox account in years.
- I have a working username & pw, apparently.
- The email address on-file with DB is inoperative, belongs to a non-existent domain.
- My logon attempt results in a Code sent to the inoperative email address.
- I see the following message, telling me to check my email for the code, which is an impossible to do, since the email has been inoperative for years.
- I need to update the DB account, to change the email address, et. al. How can I logon, since I can never learn the Code that is sent?
PS: I am NOT logged on to the inaccessible DB account as I type this. My other account, this one, works fine.
Thanks!

How long ago did you last log in TNSteve ? If its over 12 months ago the account data has gone: https://help.dropbox.com/account-access/email-about-inactive-account
Even if the account data has been wiped you would still get that screen asking for a PIN to log on if needed as Dropbox does recognise you had an account.
There is no way to log on without having the email to a valid email address (however, it isn't worth it if its over 12 months since last login): https://help.dropbox.com/account-access/lost-email-access

Hey legacygt777, sorry to hear about this.
When you say the email address doesn't exist anymore, can you clarify if you're able to re-create it perhaps?
Let us know and we'll take it from there.

I do have access to that email account anymore.

I have received notification that a 6 digit code has been sent, but I am not receiving anything. I have tried multiple times with two different accounts and nothing is being received. I cannot access my Dropbox account as a result and have been trying for almost 3 hours.
- MeganDropbox Staff
Hi NicoleK1, how are you today?
Could you try adding no-reply@dropbox.com to your contacts list and try accessing your account again? Could you also check the junk or spam folder on your email account?
Let me know more!
- NicoleK1New member | Level 2
Hi Megan,
I have tried both of those options (added no-reply@dropbox.com as a contact and checked my junk/span folder) and neither have worked. I have been sent the 6 digit code in the past (about a week or so ago), but have tried today with two separate Dropbox accounts (emails) and I have not received any notification for either accounts. Note, I tried resending multiple times and accessing through different browsers for the past 3.5 hours.

Hi, previously I have no problem login into my drobox account. However, nowadays it kept prompted me a verification code sent to a number that does not belong to me. How can I remove this verification code to access the folder? I am the admin console.

I have an account with an old email address I cant access. I remember the username and password, but Dropbox emails a code for security .... to an email I cany access. I pay $180 a year for the subscription, but can't access it. So I go to the support page for help, but can't really get help unless I sign in with an account which has a subscription. I was going to just change the associate email address and continue using it. Now I'm just thinking I might just abandon all my dropbox accounts and start using OneDrive, it would be nice if Dropbox would offer support for these type of issues.
- HannahDropbox Staff
Hey Agent V, unfortunately, without access to the email address associated with the account, there's not much we can do to help you regain access to the account.
Can you take a look at this article, to see if you can find any helpful info?
- Agent VExplorer | Level 4
I've been through the steps in the article. I was able to come up with the password on the account, now it sends a code to verify to the non working email. So I assume that there must be a way to cancel the account and make sure it never renews?
Thanks!!

when I go to login to my dropbox account, the email associated with my account has been disabled. Therefore, when I am sent the 6 digit verification code, I do not have access to it. Can I have the code sent another way?
- HannahDropbox Staff
Hey AZ13, thanks for reaching out and sorry to see you're having trouble accessing your account.
The issue is that without access to the email address associated with the account, there's no way to verify ownership of the account.
Is it possible to reach out to the email service provider, to ask them to re-enable the email?
Or can you recreate it?
- AZ13Explorer | Level 3No I’m not able to get that email back! Can I answer security questions or check that my phone is the number to send the code??

After moving email to MS365 servers the address connected to a dropbox account was missed by the IT team and remained dead for almost 1 year. This accont has now been created out on MS365 but it would seem that dropbox has now stopped trying deliver to this email address, no doubt due to bounced emails, so we are unable to get password reset and 6 digit code emails from dropbox to log back into the account. How can I move forward to resolve this issue ?
- MeganDropbox Staff
Hi daveginorge, let's jump right into this!
Can I send you an email, in order for us to have a closer look into this?
Keep me posted!

I've always been able to login with just email and password, but now a decade later it is wanting me to enter in a 6 digit code sent to the email associating with the account that I no longer have access to. No use contacting Google, I hardly used the email so I just wouldn't even be able to verify anything. The thought of losing all my family pictures from that time makes me ill. Do I need to get a lawyer or how do I go about verifying ownership without the email?
- Jessicalee11Explorer | Level 4I’ve read all the guidelines and I don’t think there’s much that can be done at this point but I can’t give up. I’m hoping there is some miracle that can help get me back in to my account. Basically I got a new phone today as my old one had been glitching (especially with my email account) so I got a bit anxious got a new phone and just did a wipe of my old one. I wasn’t worried about losing anything other than all my photos and videos which I had backed up to Dropbox and was planning to just re download all of them to have them in a second place. Anyway, I logged in to drop box on my new phone browser and changed my password (I was anxious about why my email was not working properly, but thought I still had access to it at this point). I set up 2FA and was going to change my email address as well but accidentally closed the browser. I went to log back in and it was saying password incorrect. The only thing I can think of is that I have mistyped a letter in the new password. So I went to log in to my old email through the browser and also can’t access this (I haven’t logged in in over a year as I’ve just used the app on my phone previously). So in the space of a few hours, I’ve gone from having access to my Dropbox and my email, to having access to none of them. I’m trying to get my email account recovered, but it’s not looking good at this point. I’m still so worried that it’s been compromised. I don’t care about accessing the email address that much, except for needing it now to get in to Dropbox.
So basically no access to the email and now no access to the password. Which from the looks of it means I just lose the account. I’m not sure how it works behind the scenes but there has to be a way for me to prove it’s me and that it’s my account. I know what the password was up until about 4 hours ago, I know if/how many times it’s been changed previously, when the account was opened, I know how much I pay and exactly when those payments are made (with banking proof), I know what banking details I use to pay and that my card on file has just expired (which is another concern as I don’t want my account to be delete due to non payment), I have access to both phone numbers listed for 2FA and my list of emergency one use codes. I know the file names and all the contents, I can provide proof of ID, the details of any device used to log in to the account previously and basically anything else that can be thought of. I understand the security measures are in place for a reason (and the whole reason I chose to use Dropbox in the first place) but there has to be a way for me to prove that’s my account. I’ve been sitting hear in tears for a few hours because I think I’ve just lost every photo and video of my kids from birth. It might not seem like much compared to business documents or whatever - but it’s everything to me. I had planned to back them up on to a hard drive as well but because I had them on my phone and Dropbox I wasn’t rushing to it and now I feel so stupid. My anxiety is through the roof and this honestly feels like the end of the world for me. If there’s anyone that can think of anything at all that might help, I would really appreciate it.
Thank you so much,
Jess.- Jessicalee11Explorer | Level 4I posted a few hours ago, and then replied a few times since. I really need to talk to somebody about what my options are as I’m terrified I’ve lost everything. I have anxiety anyway and so the idea that I’ve lost all the photos and videos of my kids is unbearable to me. Can somebody please help me with this, I’m really struggling.

Hey Wolfdickdotmpeg, sorry to see that you have trouble accessing your account.
Do you have any devices linked to the account maybe?
Here's an article with some info on accessing an account, when you don't have access to the email address, as well.

I had an mail address for previous my dropbox account.
I have always been able to log into it. Suddenly one day it asked for 2 factor verification.
It said it will send 6 digit code to my mail adress. I tried to log in but i found out that mail adress is not active anymore - (as it is an very old one, i am sure i have had deleted it cause it says the account doesnt exist. )
Now i dont know how to get acess to my dropbox account, i had some very valuable pictures in it.
😞 I didnt have mobile number connected and was not logged in from my computer.!!!
I try to write to support but seems there is no direct way to send them mail.

Without access to the email address you likely won't be able to sign in to the Dropbox account. Your best option is to work with Microsoft to reactivate your email address so you can receive the verification code. If they can't reactivate the email address, perhaps you can re-register it as a new account.

hello,
i was trying to login to my dropbox account but it 's sending a 6-digit code on my email address to be able to continue logging in.
i no longer have access to the email address associated with my dropbox account becuase it got hacked just recently and my email service provider isn't helping at all.
if you could send me the 6-digit code to another email or a mobile number that would be a big help.
Thank you and Godbless
- MeganDropbox Staff
Hi daynolism, welcome to our Community!
The 6 digit security code is used when you access the Dropbox account from a different location for security purposes, so without access to the email linked to the Dropbox account, things might be a little tough.
We also can't send the code to a different email address, I'm afraid.
Do you have any old, connected devices that would help you see the files in the account and download them?
Keep me posted!

Hello, I have an old Dropbox account that is tied to an old school email that unfortunately is no longer active. That specific account has sentimental videos that I would like to obtain. However, upon entering the email address and password it is asking for a 6 digit verification code that I am not able to access. Please help!
